Alternative Christmas Retreats
These will run between December 19th and 27th, 2026.
For many of us, Christmas is a particularly tough time. Whether this be because of grief, loss, orrible experiences with family, loneliness, trauma, or simply despair at how commercialised it’s all become.
I haven’t celebrated Christmas since Rich died, and am more than ok with that. To be honest though, we were fed up with witnessing all of the spending for the sake of one day, even in ‘the before’, so deciding not to join in at all in ‘the after’, was easy.
No Christmas tree, no decorations, no Christmas songs, and definitely no turkey – but there will be excellent food, and the house is already bright and welcoming, even without the tinsel.
Instead, this retreat will just be a time for you, either as respite, or perhaps to help give you strength if you will have to have a ‘normal’ Christmas, or to recover from the aftermath if you’ve already been through it.
New Year, Same You Retreats
These will run between December 28th, 2025 and January 3rd, 2027.
New Year, and the run up to it, can also be a tough time for many folks, with the prospect of entering another year – either without certain loved ones, or with particular problems or issues continuing, being extremely daunting.
So this is a retreat for those who want a break from the social pressure to celebrate or ‘let it all go’, when what you really need is a nice heated blanket, and a nap.
No new year resolutions, no fuss come midnight (we’ll likely already be in bed), no pressure to declare how you’ll make next year ‘your best yet!’, and definitely no ‘good vibes only’ toxicity. Just a comfy house, good food, stunning wildscapes, and honest conversation, with a decent dose of swearing thrown in for good measure.
